A digital perm is a perm that works with electronic devices, like digital flatbeds, with a display screen that controls the heat as it passes through the bed. This type of bed is referred to as digital because the electronic components are located inside the bed. Generally, this type of hair removal system does not require shaving, lathering, or other special tools. The only tools required are the bed, a hair-thin metal conductive rod, and the hair-thin screen.
The process described above is also called digital perm. The brand-named brand that markets this system is called PIMps. The company trademarked the name in 1993. Digital perms are different from standard mechanical or manual perm perms in that they offer a smooth transition between waves. Standard mechanical grinder types cause undesirable waves. In addition, these waves do not generate uniform thickness or width. These undesirable features can interfere with the precision of the hair-growing process. It can even lead to nicks and cuts, especially if the user is not careful.
On the other hand, digital perm screens use waves that are uniform and therefore eliminate all of
these problems. Digital perms do have their advantages. One major advantage is
that it eliminates the need to shave or apply a conditioner or moisturizer.
Another advantage is that it can be used on any area of the body where a
traditional perm can be used.
An additional advantage is that it can be used in more places than a traditional perm can. In addition to these two major advantages, digital perm screens also have disadvantages. Digital perms are usually only available in two thicknesses: short and medium length. Shorter digital perm designs are ideal for perming eyebrows or lips because they are much thinner than long ones.
